Health Care Crisis in Ecuador
In my opinion, the public health care system in Ecuador is a disaster. I have a personal friend that is being kicked out of ICU and sent home and most likely, he will die there at the age of 72.
Also in my humble opinion, had he gone to North America for this surgery, he would be up walking marathons by now.
Please watch this video with a open mind and don't shoot me, I'm just a messenger with an opinion.

#insurance #private insurance #public insurance
Health insurance is essential for individuals and families to access affordable and quality healthcare services. In Ecuador, there are two main types of health insurance: private health insurance and government health insurance. While both options offer coverage for medical expenses, they differ in several ways.
Private health insurance is provided by private companies, such as Humana, or BMI and typically requires individuals to pay a monthly premium. Private health insurance plans in Ecuador often offer a range of coverage options, including hospitalization, surgery, and preventative care. They also may include additional benefits, such as dental and vision coverage. With private health insurance, individuals have the flexibility to choose their healthcare providers, hospitals, and medical treatments.
On the other hand, government health insurance is provided by the Ecuadorian government, through the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (IESS) or the Ministry of Public Health. Government health insurance, also known as Seguro Social, is financed through payroll taxes and is available to all Ecuadorian citizens and residents, including those who are unemployed or self-employed. The coverage provided by government health insurance is comprehensive and includes both primary and specialty care, hospitalization, and medications. However, government health insurance may have longer waiting times for medical services, and individuals may not have the option to choose their healthcare providers or hospitals.
Another difference between private health insurance and government health insurance is the cost. Private health insurance premiums can be more expensive than government health insurance, but they often provide more comprehensive coverage and additional benefits. Government health insurance, on the other hand, is more affordable and provides coverage to a broader population.
Both private health insurance and government health insurance have their pros and cons. Individuals need to carefully consider their healthcare needs and budget when deciding which option is best for them. While private health insurance provides more flexibility and comprehensive coverage, it can also be more expensive. Government health insurance, on the other hand, provides more affordable coverage, but with less flexibility in terms of choosing healthcare providers and hospitals. Ultimately, the decision of which type of health insurance to choose will depend on an individual's unique circumstances and needs.

Ecuador is affordable, and the lifestyle you can have on a typical Social Security check of $1,500 a month for a single person or $2,500 for a couple is very attractive. Budgets vary, and many live in Cuenca Ecuador on much less than $1,500 and others far exceed $1,500. We've met people living on under $1,000 while we've been here, so that is a possibility.

Julie and I retired early not by luck but by planning.
One of our spokes to our wheel for savings, and now an income stream
is Fundrise. Basically we are invested in many apartment complexes around the country.
We get a portion of the rents in the form of dividends, and growth in value with the appreciation
of the properties. We currently have selected an income REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust)
which historically pays between 7.5% - 9% annually in dividends. You can chose a balanced REIT which has a split between appreciation and dividends or a REIT where it's focused on appreciation and not dividends.
Check it out to see if it's a fit for your savings, or retirement strategy. Feel free to share this with those you feel may benefit from this program.
